An elegant, inviting home was the objective of the homeowners. Through incorporating their eclectic design styles and desire to create height and drama while still maintaining an intimate feel, we designed a home that truly captures the essence of the family.
The style of home that best met the homeowners objectives was a “bungaloft”; a bungalow with a second story loft that opens to the first floor. A “bungaloft” is able to capture the intimacy and coziness of a bungalow, while allowing for high ceilings and extra space.
The exterior is an appropriate blend of architectural design styles, creating a unique and pleasing composition. The steeply pitched roofs with broken roof lines and varying planes of the facade reflect French chateau style, while the numerous windows suggest English manor. Our clients opted for a mix of stone and red antique brick for the exterior material. Situated on a corner lot in a heavily forested neighbourhood, the soft lines and neutral colour palette of the exterior truly puts this home at peace with its environment.
The home is grand without being intimidating. A two-sided fireplace connecting the dining room and living room, floor-to-ceiling windows in almost every room,18-foot ceilings in the dining room and up to 23-foot ceilings in other areas of the main floor. Carrying the wood accents throughout the home was key to the homeowner’s vision. They wanted to ensure a cozy and comfortable feeling, reiterating their desire to have a welcoming home while still upholding their sophisticated style.
