When you embark on a project as substantial as a home addition, renovation or custom design, there are many things to consider.  Many things you’ll worry about.  Choosing the best designer for your project shouldn’t be one of them.

Our experience on over 600 projects has enabled us to fine tune our process to ensure that your project – from initialization to completion – is as smooth and comfortable as possible.

Your project begins with an initial consultation where we’ll discuss your criteria – where you want to build, whether or not you’ve found and purchased your property, the size and use of the building, and the must haves that will be necessary if we’re going to make your project your dream home.

We’ll clearly outline the project timing, fees and requirements so that you have a firm understanding of what lies ahead.

When you decide to move forward, we’ll collaborate with you to gather all of the information required to initiate the design process.

  • We carefully evaluate your property – considering vegetation, topography, orientation, views, and neighbouring structures.
  • We will closely examine all regulatory guidelines – and walk you through any restrictions or obstacles.
  • If your project is a renovation or addition, we’ll take measurements and photos and create “as-built” drawings.

Next, we’ll have our program requirements meeting where you’ll share your wish list, your favourite designs or features, and the practical needs for your new home.  It is here that our extensive experience helps us to fully ascertain what makes a home your dream home – even if you don’t fully understand it yourself.

David will then create a hand-drawn design concept – unique to your property and your needs.  We’ll review this together and we’ll discuss the merits of involving other design consultants and builders to review the initial design and to solicit feedback.  David will direct this highly collaborative and consultative process – enabling you to feel confident that we’re putting your needs above all else.

The feedback will be incorporated and your questions and concerns addressed until a final version of the design is completed.

Then, the process becomes more technical.  We have an approved design in hand and we develop the technical drawings required to determine the final pricing of the project and successfully navigate through the municipal approvals process.

We will diligently follow through on all required municipal approvals, and when approved, we’ll work with the builder through the successful conclusion of the construction process.
